Allo Darlin’ – London Compass Shows
Allo Darlin’ play four intimate London dates, one for each point of the compass, showcasing new material from their as yet to be recorded third album.
Allo Darlin’ are set to delight and frustrate fans in equal measure this summer by playing four teeny tiny shows at different London venues representing the four points of the compass. The West is represented by Ginglik in Shepherd’s Bush, the South by the Half Moon in Herne Hill, North by St Pancras Old Church and the East by The Vortex in Dalston.
Singer Elizabeth Morris explains: “We’re recording our new album in London in the summer, and we had the idea that it would be great to road-test the new songs before we put them to tape. We haven’t played any small shows in London for a long time, and we’re aware that sometimes the best venues are the smallest ones. We’ve always felt that we play our best at these kinds of shows, and it doesn’t seem fair that our London audience misses out on them. So we decided to do a show in every corner of this fair city of ours, in four venues that we have never played before. It’s a London Compass, if you will. An ancient church, a jazz venue, a converted Victorian WC and, of course, the classic, a back room of a pub. We will be playing a lot of new songs, but of course there will be room for old favourites. With some amazing support acts, we hope you can find time in your summer to join us.”

The London-based four-piece – led by Elizabeth Morris, with guitarist Paul Rains, Bill Botting on the bass and Michael Collins on drums – create perfect, sophisticated pop gems and know how to put on a joyous, effervescent, fun-filled live show. Achingly personal, incredibly poignant and familiar all at once, Elizabeth Morris’ songwriting has deepened and developed since their debut, but they’ve lost none of their ability to create sophisticated, intelligent pop music with an uplifting, joyous feel.
Their self-titled debut was released to universal acclaim with plaudits including being named No. 2 record of the year by online retailer eMusic and a glowing 1,200 word essay by legendary Go-Between Mr. Robert Forster in the Australian critical magazine, The Monthly. Their follow-up ‘Europe’ earned them Rough Trade’s album of the month for May 2012 and an 8/10 in NME and saw them touring for most of the year, including a successful Stateside run of shows with support from The Wave Pictures, where the album had rave reviews in Pitchfork and in USA Today.
“In 2010′s self-titled debut and last year’s Europe, Allo Darlin’ have quietly released two impeccable albums of ukulele-based pop in which the everyday splinters of romance – the funfair trysts, Woody Allen film marathons, special songs and magical interrailing moments – are magnified… a masterclass of modern cult pop that owes as much to the Smiths and Throwing Muses as it does to the sumptuous folk-pop of Belle and Sebastian and the Lilac Time.” The Guardian 4*s

A brilliant new three piece from London. Despite only having formed in April this year they have already toured Europe with The Pains Of Being Pure Of Heart and recorded with Stuart Moxham of Young Marble Giants, whom they are now looking forward to supporting in February. Fittingly, Flowers draw a line between the joyous fuzzpop of the Pains and the minimalist brilliance of Young Marble Giants, with singer Rachel playing bass guitar with just a single string. The trio comprises of Sam (guitar), Jordan (drums) and Rachel (bass, vocals). Together they create a wall of sound larger than the sum of their parts, catchy pop songs hidden in noise. And Rachel possesses one of those beautiful pop voices to die for, with echoes of Elizabeth Fraser and Hope Sandoval. The reception at the few gigs they have played to date has been nothing less than rapturous.
Singles on Cloudberry and Odd Box Records are due in the new year, along with a number of London dates and an East Coast tour of the US. A full-length album is scheduled for release in Spring on Fortuna POP!
